Design studio in grand hotel

For the Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & Spa, Christian Herren was commissioned by teo jakob to create a bookable design studio that highlights the points of contact between the hotel's glamorous history and contemporary design development.

In “On Her Majesty's Secret Service” (1969), James Bond himself paid a visit to the Hotel Schweizerhof in Bern. The legendary film is remembered not only for its breathtaking Alpine backdrop, but also for the exquisite décor of each location. Bond villain Blofeld's research lab, for example, featured designer Verner Panton's then-novel “Flowerpot” lamps hanging from the ceiling. These lights and other iconic furnishings from 70 years of design history will be on display in the Schweizerhof's “Timeless Design Studio” from November 2023. Each of the last seven decades is represented by at least one design in the “Timeless Design Studio” - from 1953 to 2023. A new “Rag Chair” by Dutch designer Tejo Remy of Droog Design, an armchair made from old hotel staff uniforms, has also been created especially for the project. Another highlight is the presentation of the “TOWER A (HIGH-RISE)” shelf by Bern-born, New York-based designer Ben Ganz. The young Italian design collective NM3 is represented in the suite with the “NM3SH” side table by 2023, and the “No Sale” mirror by artist Lorenza Longhi quotes Liz Taylor from the film “Butterfield 8”, bringing us full circle: The Hollywood icon stayed at the legendary hotel in 1950.
